BETHANY BEACH FARMERS’ MARKET – August 17, 2025
The Market started out slowly, but once church let out, we had a good flow of customers. A lot of people are heading to their other homes or vacations are over. Some of our wonderful Summer Officers, who keep order in our parking lot, are returning to college. The Officers do such a good job of reserving spots for volunteers and checking them off so there will be spots available for shoppers.
On Friday, August 15, the Bethany Beach Town Council recognized several groups that are essential to the Town. Mayor Calef acknowledged the BBFM Board members who were present as well as those who couldn’t make it. The Town benefits from our Market with our 13 wonderful vendors who toil to provide all that’s great about summer crops from land and sea.
We have just two BBFMs left in our 14-week season. Make sure to stock up on everything you need and consider canning, freezing, or just enjoy it fresh while you can.
One of our vendors, Zach Dittmar, shared his philosophy of farming: “Mitigate the risks, and trust the rest to the Lord.”
WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT WEEK
Bennett Orchards – We had last of the nectarines which didn’t last long; they are gone until next year. The peaches this Sunday lasted until 11:45; so hopefully everyone got what they wanted. The guesstimate is that there will be only one more week of peaches. Check their website below for what variety of peaches to look for next week. This week they again had beautiful bouquet sleeves of multi-colored, pollenless sunflowers. Hopefully, they will have more next week. Good recipes are also here: https://www.bennettorchards.com/

Susan Wiggs, NY Times best-selling author, from Summer by the Sea
In the Old Country version of “Sleeping Beauty,” the princess was awakened from her enchanted slumber with a whiff of rosemary-scented water.
2 cups water
2 cups sugar
2 cups lemon juice
Grated rind of one lemon
2 sprigs of rosemary (get your rosemary from Herbs, Spice & Everything Nice)
Ice cubes
Cold water or club soda
Instructions
Combine the water and sugar in a saucepan and bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
Boil the liquid three minutes.
Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the lemon juice, lemon rind and rosemary.
Refrigerate at least one hour.
Strain the mixture into a storage container.
To fix a glass of lemonade, place 5 to 6 ice cubes in a drinking glass.
Fill the glass about a third full with the lemon syrup, add water or club soda to the top of the glass, stir and drink.
Makes about 3 cups. Enjoy!
