BETHANY BEACH FARMERS’ MARKET – August 11, 2025
We were so fortunate to have another “Chamber of Commerce Day” with perfect weather at our 11th Market of the season; we have only 3 remaining Markets. Let’s hope our luck holds out.
With our BBFM nearing the home stretch, you may wish to take up what our grandmothers did years ago, and a few of our shoppers still do: Canning at home using produce from our farmers’ market allows you to preserve fresh, seasonal foods for later enjoyment. It’s a great way to reduce food waste and enjoy delicious, homegrown flavors year-round. It is truly a labor of love. One of our volunteers recently made and canned peach preserves. I can’t wait to try them.
Not only did we have many customers from near and far, but we also had many dog visitors. Our policy for everyone’s safety is that dogs and other pets are not permitted inside the Market (except for Service Dogs). This is to ensure the safety of customers, vendors, and volunteers. But we do offer dog sitting (staff permitting) for your pups and have wonderful volunteers who love dogs and will help while the parents shop.
We’ve mentioned a few times this season the “Gleaning” program we support with Mariner’s Church. Toward the end of each BBFM, a representative from the church comes with a wagon and collects whatever our vendors can donate. The church’s food pantry prepares and distributes the food to needy families. Our vendors are very generous in supporting this program, and our BBFM Board is happy to coordinate and help others. A photo will be posted with this report showing the gathering from the vendors.
Our vendors are happy with their presence at BBFM and are doing well, many selling out by the end of each Market.
WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT WEEK
Bennett Orchards – We had nectarines and peaches this week which sold out at 9:40. The nectarines are my second personal favorites but were probably one week only. Check their website below for what variety of peaches to look for next week. This week they again had beautiful bouquet sleeves of multi-colored, pollenless sunflowers. Hopefully, they will have more next week. Good recipes are also here: https://www.bennettorchards.com/

BBFM 2025 season: 6/1-8/31
Recipe of the Week
Watermelon Salad
This is a repeat from a previous year, but since we saw many watermelons leaving the BBFM this week, both seedless and big ones with seeds, we’re sharing again. ‘Tis the season for fun watermelon recipes.
(Posted on Facebook by one of Carolyn’s favorite authors Susan Wiggs, NY Times Bestselling author)
This is a no-recipe recipe for the lazy days of summer.
Cut a cold watermelon into cubes.
Toss them in a chilled bowl with blueberries (or just the watermelon), chopped mint or basil, and feta cheese.
Drizzle with a bit of good balsamic vinegar. Bliss!
