BETHANY BEACH FARMERS’ MARKET – JUNE 16 2024 Market Report

It was a picture-perfect day for open-air Market shopping! June has been incredibly kind to us weather-wise this year – who knows how long that will last, but we will take it! The heat is supposed to ramp up later this week, which may get the A/Cs working overtime; but it will also ramp up maturing our local crops! Our vendors are already bringing amazing varieties of local produce – check us out!

WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT WEEK

Bennett Orchards – Lots and lots of your favorite Duke blueberries!

Davidson’s Exotic Mushrooms – Mushrooms, mushrooms, mushrooms: Portobello, Shitake, Cremini, Pom-Poms.

Derby Mill Farm – Beautiful bouquets of native flowers. For our every-week shoppers, don’t forget to ask about “deals on refills!”

Dittmar Family Farms – Ground lamb, Arugula, spring mix greens, kale, spinach, radishes, as well as broccoli, and exotic cauliflower. 

Herbs, Spice, Everything Nice – A wide variety of beautiful herbs and house plants. Radishes, heirloom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, and Swiss Chard from their organic farm.

Honey Bee Lake Apiary – Honey, Honey balm, pastries, and jams.

Jackie Blues – Live Blue Crabs, Fresh picked Crab Meat, Crab Cakes, Crab Salad.

 Lavender Fields – Lavender Hand Sanitizer, Lavender Honey, Natural Hand-crafted Soaps, Bath Salts, Lotions, Bug Spray.

Old World Breads – Hand-crafted Breads, Pastries, Flatbreads, Cookies. New this year – “Muffin of the Week” – you won’t be disappointed!

Pereyra Farms – Kale, Asparagus, Broccoli, Squash, Onions.

Story Hill Farm – Locally raised Pork: ground sausage, bacon, scrapple, and Locally raised Beef: ground beef, kebab cubes, rib-eyes. Peanut Butter, Henlopen Sea Salts, and Eggs.

Wimbrow Farms – Corn, Squash, including 8 Ball squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and flowers.

Early Summer Salad with Bennett Blueberry-Balsamic Dressing

Salad:
 2 cups Bennett Blueberries
 2 cups mixed greens
 ½ cup crumbled bleu cheese
 ½ cup toasted walnuts 

Dressing:
 ¼ cup Bennett Blueberries
 ¼ cup balsamic vinegar
 ¼ cup olive oil
 1 ½ teaspoons local honey 
 1 ½ teaspoons Dijon Mustard
 Salt and pepper, to taste

Toss spring greens, 2 cups Bennett Blueberries, bleu cheese and walnuts together in a large bowl. Set aside. Blend remaining Bennett Blueberries, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, honey, and Dijon together in a blender until dressing is smooth. Season dressing with salt and pepper, to taste. Pour dressing over salad and toss to coat. Serves 2.
