It’s official, we have hit the Middies – the middle of summer, and the middle of produce madness! Crops are ripening at a rapid-fire pace – our farmers are humping from dawn to dusk to keep up!
Henry brought an extra truckload of peaches from Bennett Orchards and still sold out by 10:30! Luckily, more truckloads are expected next week!! Here’s a little different spin on salsa from the DE AG Dept.
SUMMER PEACH SALSA
- 1 Pint cherry tomatoes
- 1 jalapeno pepper
- 3 Tbsp. red onion, chopped
- 2 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
- 1 Tbsp. lime juice
- 1 Tbsp. cilantro, chopped
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- ¼ tsp. salt
- ¼ tsp. black pepper
Coarsely chop tomatoes and place in large bowl. Peel and pit peach – chop coarsely and add to bowl. Remove stem and seeds from jalapeno – mince and add to bowl. Add remaining ingredients to bowl. Stir and chill.
Our Sunday dinner was a grill-only event – keep it out of my kitchen! Steaks shared grill space with corn from Ficner Farms, Monte Carlo romaine from 302 Aquaponics, and Grey Oyster mushrooms that crisped up nicely, from Davidson’s Exotic Mushrooms. Honey Bee Lake Apiary provided dessert – one of Madison’s favorites – Honey Strawberry Strudel. The flaky pastry was perfection!
We have it all right now – corn, tomatoes, squash, zucchini, peppers of countless varieties, cantaloupes, and watermelons to boot! Ficner Farms alone sold 800 ears of corn, Wimbrow Farmssold out of watermelons quickly, and the shelves at Herbs, Spice…were looking pretty bare by 11:00!
Our farmers are bringing tons of produce to the Market, but beware, some of your favorites may sell out quickly – SHOP EARLY!!!
It’s the Middies – enjoy the bounty!
